Radius Keys to Change

Radius John Howared Kinsmen Activity Place Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op

November 2011 - April 2012

Overview:

Radius Community Centre has been recognized as a successful service provider for individuals who are unemployed. Radius programming recognizes the need for holistic planning when assisting the unemployed. All Radius participants are given the opportunity to learn and practice key skills that help build personal capacity and are directly linked to sustaining employment and improving quality of life.

Radius Community Centre is unique in that we deliver programs for a wide variety of stakeholders from children to adults. That diversity has helped us over the years to remain responsive to community needs. A flexible, strength based approach is used to develop all Radius programs. This project is based on a partnership with the following Saskatoon community based agencies: Kinsmen Activity Place (Kap House), Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op (CNYC), John Howard Society: Str-8 Up and Radius.

Goal:

The goal of Keys To Change (K2C) is to facilitate the connection of 16 unemployed youth who face barriers to participation in the labour market. These barriers include and are not limited to recent criminal records and/or past gang involvement. K2C provides the necessary job search tools, job coaching and work experience needed for these youth for connection with the labour market.

To enhance employment opportunities K2C strategies are to:

Objective 1.
develop participants' workplace essential skills through participation in group based personal management and teamwork skill building workshops
Objective 2.
develop an individualized participant career action plan that includes goal development for employment and education
Objective 3.
utilize the support of a job coach/workplace liaison to support participants in work experience as a means to garner their connection to a job
Objective 4.
demonstrate the value of community partners working in collaboration to build participant capacity for employment
